Texas baseball has had a pretty inconsistent 2016 season with 16 wins and 20 losses heading into their game this past Tuesday against UT Rio Grande Valley. They lost the last 4 Tuesday games but broke the streak when they came out with the win against UTRGV 7-5.
The Horns started out slow when the Vaqueros scored three points in the third inning. The Horns were quick to answer back with a run by Tyler Rand to put the team on the board. After another score by UTRGV, the Horns yet again followed up with a triple by Bret Boswell to run in Zane Gurwitz and a Boswell run on a wild pitch. Later in the fifth inning, Tres Barrera runs in on another wild pitch tying the score at 4. The most exciting Texas play of the night came in the 8th inning when freshman Kody Clemens scored his fourth home run of the season putting the Horns up 7-5 and leading them to a victory.
The Horns have faced many surprising defeats this season including being swept in a four-game series for the first time in history. However, Texas has proved they remain a powerhouse by winning the series against TCU and coming out 4th in the Big 12 Conference. Texas faces a tough Texas Tech team this weekend which will prove if Texas even has a chance of clinching the Big 12 tournament title later this season. Although Texas seems as a rather disappointed this season, maybe not all hope is lost for the Horns. It’s time for them to find some heat and remain consistent with wins.
