The long wait is finally over. Tonight, The highly anticipated match up of the Washington Capitals vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins will kick off the metropolitan series 2 of the NHL playoffs. Many critics are framing this series as a battle for the cup between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. It has been 7 years since these two teams have faced each other in the playoffs giving plenty time to these teams to build up their hatred for one another. Ovechkin has yet to capture the Stanley Cup where as Sidney Crosby already has 1 under his belt. The Washington Capitals finished on top of NHL this season and secured the Presidents Trophy but The Pittsburgh Penguins have been on what seems to be a winning streak that can’t be stopped. Although the Pens have been on an “unstoppable” streak the Washington Capitals are the team to stop them. This game is more than just Ovi vs. Sid; the Capitals have grown immensely has a team from last season. The Capitals now have the leadership from Ovi and the players like Evgeny Kuznetsov and Andre Burakovsky who have really evolved into amazing teammates. The Capitals now have strength, speed, and talent in all 4 lines. If that’s not enough for you to place bets on the Washington Capitals then Braden “Holtbeast” should put your mind at ease. Braden Holtby has found his stride and is now one of the best goalies of the game. This season Braden tied Brodeur’s single-season record for wins by a goaltender and has been nominated for the Vezina Trophy. With the Ovi’s shot, the team’s strength, and Holtby’s skill the Washington Capitals should come out of this series being one step closer to winning the Stanley Cup.
