What a crazy draft night for Ole Miss football player Laremy Tunsil. He was projected to go first in the draft going into the night, however minutes before the draft a video of Tunsil was posted on his twitter. The video showed Tunsil smoking marijuana out of a gas mask and laughing. In addition, Tunsil’s twitter posted multiple pictures of exchanges between Tunsil and Ole Miss football coaches in which Tunsil asks for money so he can make his rent. A projected top 3 pick, Tunsil fell all the way to the 13th pick, selected by the Miami Dolphins. Tunsil made multiple statements declaring that his twitter was hacked. He did acknowledge receiving money from Ole Miss while playing there. This was one of the biggest draft scandals in recent history, and the incident really proved the power that social media has amassed in today’s sports world. Whether it was one of Tunsil’s friends, or simply a random hacker, someone had it out for him. This should be used as a lesson for future college athletes that anything which gets photographed always has the potential to make it public. Social media and today’s technology mean that athletes are constantly being put under the spotlight, and they must be proactive with their presence.
