Rougned Odor: Punched his Ticket to Stardom

Rougned Odor has quickly made a name for himself across the MLB and among fans. After a humble start to his professional career that began in the Class A minor leagues in 2011, Odor was just able to secure himself a 6 year contract worth $49.5 million and a little added perk. To please the noted horseman, the Rangers got creative and added two elite equines to the deal.

Life is good for Odor and certainly coming at him fast. His budding stardom could most likely be traced back to about one full year ago on May 15, 2016 with the punch heard around the world. Following a noted feud between the Rangers and star Blue Jay Jose Bautista in the playoffs that resulted in Bautista’s famous emphatic bat flip, Odor demonstrated that Bautista wasn’t going to disrespect Texas again. The notorious fight began after Bautista slid into Odor on his post at second base. The two players proceeded to get in each other’s faces and Rougned gave him a push and then gave him the punch. A glorious strike square in the face that would have made Mike Tyson jealous! Odor quickly became an internet sensation as the punch was shared across all platforms as people marveled at the perfectly captured image that caused Bautista’s sun glasses and helmet to fly off.

The punch certainly won his fans over but baseball isn’t boxing so a punch like that doesn’t earn you $50 million. Odor has proved his value on the diamond as a power hitter who is improving every single year. The Venezuelan has just about doubled his home run total each year in the majors after posting 9 his first season in 2014 and then slamming home 33 in 2016 along with 88 RBIs.

Rangers fans have reason to be excited about the future of his career and for this season as Rougned Odor launched two homers the first game of the season against the Indians. As potential World Series contenders they are going to continue to need the second baseman’s power hitting throughout the season and it appears he will continue to provide it.
