The O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 took place yesterday afternoon in Texas. And while we thought Ryan Blaney would have a Sunday Sweep, Jimmie Johnson managed to pull out his first W for the season for his 16th straight year with at least one win–that’s the longest active streak currently!
Seems like Johnson is out of his slump and back to reign his territory. This was Johnson’s SEVENTH win at Texas Motor Speedway. We bet he’s excited to return to the track later this year! Sunday was the first Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway after recent renovations.
“I’m just real proud of this team. What a tough track and tough conditions. We were really in our wheelhouse and we were just able to execute all day.” Johnson said.
Kyle Larson maintains his lead in NASCAR point standings, followed by Chase Elliott. Larson finished second on Sunday, after Johnson. Elliot landed number 9.
Blaney’s luck switched as the race went on, finishing 12th after winning both stage 1 and 2. And to top it off, he had a collision that damaged his car.
All in all, Sunday’s race had us all biting at our fingernails. The new track proved to be challenging, but I think the consensus from the drivers is they can’t wait to be back at Texas Motor Speedway!
Tune into the Food City 500 on April 23rd–two weeks at Bristol Motor Speedway on FOX. Race starts at 1:00 PM CT.
