This past weekend, the University of Texas at Austin Women’s Tennis team had a fabulous weekend. On Friday, April 8th, the lady longhorns took on no. 12 Texas Tech in Lubbock. Last time Texas and Texas Tech met, the Longhorns knocked off Tech in a 4-2 win. No. 11 Breaunna Addison and Dani Wagland won the number 1 doubles match. Texas also won the number two doubles match. The Horns lost the first two single matches but the No. 11 Breaunna Addison cut the lead in half. Daniella Roldan quickly followed with another win after that. To seal the win for the Longhorns Neda Koprcina pulled out a 2-1 win in her number two singles match.
Then on Sunday, April 10th the longhorns took on the TCU horned frogs, ranked 28th, and came back to win 4-3. Last time Texas and TCU met, the Horned Frogs took down the Longhorns 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. The Longhorns, losing both the doubles matches and the first singles match, quickly fell behind the frogs. However, no. 11 Breaunna Addison started the comeback for the longhorns along with Lana Groenvynck, Neda Koprcina, and Daniella Roldan who also won their matches. These four single match wins helped put the Longhorns ahead of the frogs 4-3 to clinch the win.
These two road wins against ranked opponents helped the Horns in the ITA top 25 rankings this week. Before this weekend, the Horns were seated at #35 and now with two wins under their belt, the ITA rankings put them at #25. The Horns will have home matches for the next two weekends. Saturday, the Lady Longhorns host the West Virginia Mountaineers and then face the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday at Whitaker Tennis Courts.
